How it works
When electric current flows trough a conductor (like a wire), it creates heat.
This state-of-the-art NorTide button has an bi-metal implemented into its housing, which expands when it heats up.
As soon as the current passes a certain threshold value (for example 10Ampere), the Bi-metal will expands beyond its normal shape, and breaks the circuit, stopping the current from flowing.
When the circuit is interrupted, so is the current flow to the electronics (for example, your bilgepump). This means that the bilgepump will shut off, protecting the pump and the wiring.
Since current i no longer flowing, the bi-metal inside the switch will cool off and automatically resets itself.
